Khush Amdeed!

Welcome! This word means to celebrate someone’s coming with gladness. What a wonderful way to allow someone in! However, the individualism and ideology of self-interest has robbed this word of its warmth. At Chopan we welcome you with all the original warmth and excitement of this word. At Chopan we look to welcome individuals who are willing to grow hand in hand with not only each other but also with their entire community.

We welcome you to this family and we look forward to joining you on this journey of development and service.

All About Me

Ever since I was little, my dream job was to become a nun. Yes, you heard me right; I wanted to become a nun. And I even went as far as attending a discernment. However, God had different plans and I soon found myself abandoning my life-long dream. What followed did not seem grand but in hindsight it was the beginning of something great. I became a saleswoman in Aqua Water.

One day, in hopes of selling some water bottles, I called a Christian book shop in old Karachi and found myself talking to the young assistant manager who refused to confirm a deal with me. As you can tell, this was how I met my husband. The man with whom God used me to set up a school for Christian children; I had become a teacher. Now to some this might not seem like a grand occupation but today I can stand and testify that God has used this same occupation to bless so many children of the community. After 22 years of service, I feel blessed with great joy and pride when my former students present themselves as respectable and established Christian adults of society.

Having faithfully walked as a teacher, God brought to me a promotion and not in just my status. Of course my status was changed, to now being the principal, but along with it I was promoted in my influence and the people I would bless as a mentor. I now began working with the teachers as well, working on improving the teaching practices at the school. This influence continued to grow as I became the Assistant Director of Starfish Pakistan now helping manage and train teachers of over 53 projects all over Pakistan. I have conduct over 50 teacher trainings in the past 22 years. I have truly been blessed.

I thought that this influence would only continue to grow, however, things changed when my husband and I decided to resign from our previous organization. Instead of seeing an increase I felt like I was going into decline. But, I have learned that it was not my status that had allowed God to use me; how foolish was that thought! God had used me with my status and could continue to use me without one too. Indeed, this is true, because despite having resigned, I have continued to conducted teacher trainings. This break from my position also provided me the opportunity of professional development as I was able to enroll for an M.Phil degree in Education. I have learnt a great deal from this and I see myself applying the knowledge in my trainings.

“Many are the plans in a man’s heart but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails” – Proverbs 19: 21

This is the greatest lesson of my life and I will continue to hold onto this as I face this unexpected and confusing season of my life. The same God who led me from the ambitions of becoming a nun to mentoring over 1,000 teachers is the same God who will now lead me onto my next victory! My God is faithful and I am on another journey of experiencing this all over again. Join me! Let us celebrate it together.
